What's your style?

Because of the wide range and variety of rock formations around the world, rock climbing has been separated into several different styles and sub-disciplines that are described below:

Top Rope

Top rope is climbing with a rope that is already set up. One end of the rope is attached to the belayer, while the other side goes up over the top of the climb and attached to the climber.

Solo

Soloing is the most dangerous kind of rock climbing. Soloing is climbing without any gear that would protect a fall including ropes, belays, crash pads or harnesses. Deep water soloing is similar to free soloing, but the climber climbs over a body of water that protects the fall.

Bouldering

Bouldering is climbing with no rope or belay. Boulderers usually climb at the base of cliffs or climbing gyms. A bouldering pad is required for protection if a boulderer falls. Bouldering is great for strength training and practicing problem solving while on the wall.

Sport Climbing

Sport climbing is a form of lead climbing where a climber ascends a cliff or rock and attaches quickdraws to bolts that are already attached to the rock. The quickdraws are essentially create checkpoints by attaching the safety rope to the bolt as a climber progresses.
